1.What grade do you deserve and why? Site examples of your work from your digital portfolio.
I think that I deserve an A in this class. I have decided this because on all of the projects, I have gone beyond the minimum requirements. For example, on the Hybrid animals, I made 5 different animals. On pretty much every project, I also included my scrapped projects to display what I was also working on, and how I was spending my time in the class. I have a written paragraph next to every project so I can describe how I created my image. I also strive to do my best work and do more work than what is required. For all of my projects, I also include a high quality download to the project file and the final product, so you can view the full quality, and the steps I took to achieve my goal. By using Dropbox, I was able to access and work on my projects from my computer at home. I also try and make small adjustments that you might not notice. For example, I always add in a color correction to fix up any issues with my image, and you may never notice that if I didn’t post my project file on my website. I do believe that I deserve an A in this class because of my overall improvement in this class.
2. What was your most significant success or achievement in the course this semester? How did that become your biggest success?
I think my biggest success in the first quarter of Imaging was my creation of 4 different hybrid animals, and 1 elaboration of one of my images. I think this was a huge success for me because I remember back in 7th grade when I had to do a similar project, and all of my animals looked like I just slapped together different parts of animals, and called it a hybrid. Now, I have learned new skills and I was able to blend my animals together to make it look somewhat believable. Also, I greatly exceeded the standards and made extra images for that project. I even used 5 animals for one of my hybrid animals. I really enjoyed that project because I could see how much I improved in just a few weeks of this class. I think that in the next few days, I will also be pretty proud of my T-Shirt designs, because so far, I am happy with how well I have adapted to Illustrator and how my designs are looking.
3. What was your most significant challenge or mistake in the course this semester? How/Why do you think that was the case, and/or why did that happen?
My most significant challenge in this quarter was making the vector landscapes in Illustrator. In the past, I have only used Photoshop in the classroom and outside of the classroom. Switching to Illustrator is a big change because of all of the similar tools with different shortcuts and sometimes different components behind them. I have never done a project of that sort in my past, and isn’t really the style I would choose, but I went on to create 3 landscapes that are on my website. I think it was just difficult to adapt to the new environment, and having to use different tools, and knowing that I can’t do the same things that I could do in Photoshop.
4. What is one thing that you learned from this course that isn’t a technique? Did you learn it from me, a peer, self discovery? If you were to apply some supposition to this semester, what would you have done differently to have even more success to to get more out of the class?
One big thing that I learned is to have an open mind and to take all opinions into consideration. It truly is amazing how different everyone’s minds are. By letting others look at my project, I can get their opinion on what to change, how I could expand, and other helpful things. Also, by checking other projects I can see other ideas, and see how my classmates interpret the project. I think that it is a great idea to have us collaborate, and not be independent, so we can all benefit from each other’s ideas. If I could go back and do something differently, I would probably ask for more opinions from my peers. After our guest speaker, I realized the value in someone else’s opinion, and I think that I would have communicated with my neighbors more often.
5. Lastly, how can I make this class even better in the future? please be kind, specific, and helpful.
So far, I am loving the class’s energy, environment, projects and lessons. I also enjoy watching the videos about a variety of artists and designers. I think one way we could improve the class is to do more group work so we can communicate and combine our ideas together. It will help us learn how to work with new people and to learn how to be part of a team. I did like how we had a group for our fantastical portraits, but we didn’t completely work on one project. We collaborated with each other, and then we went on our own paths. But I think it would be better to have a project where we must work with each other through the entire duration of the project, so we meet new people and learn to contribute to a group.
