1. Please include the letter grade or percentage you feel you deserve in the class based on your work and participation in the class. Explain
I believe that I have earned an A in this class during the second quarter. On all of my projects I attempted to create extra work. For example, I created two vector portraits instead of one. I also created two movie posters instead of just one. I always try to maximize my time in class and create the most and best work I can. For my T-shirt project I created three CCA T-shirts and five Overload T-shirts that come in six different colors. For my branding project, I already had a logo, but I created a new one using my initials, just like the original. I then proceeded to make a mug, a pen, a pin, notebook pages, a phone background, a T-shirt, and a business card. I did not use any templates and created my own style for all eight parts of my branding project.
2. Using one or more project as an example, how have you made connections to the outside world via your projects? What skills have you developed that may help you in your future at school/career etc?
During the Overload T-shirt project, I found color styles that I liked and implemented a similar style in all of my shirts. The t-shirt project was a great experience in working for a real company and having to find my own style. This as well as the branding project helped my learn how to create logos and designs in illustrator. In my branding project I learned how to create a new color style in Photoshop and how to work more in blending options.
3. In what ways have you used critical thinking skills throughout this semester?
During the second quarter, I used critical thinking skills to figure out how to create logos and other designs in illustrator. I tried different ways to create my logo and the t-shirt designs which helped my figure out how to efficiently work in illustrator. During my novel illustration I had to figure out how to keep it a dark theme but still be able to see the house and the river with small rocks on the edges. For my t-shirt designs I had to figure out how to make the designs transparent so I had to rasterize the layers and then retrace back over it to make sure it was transparent (only for some of the designs that needed this).
4. Where was your biggest moment of growth or success? And where is your most significant area for growth?
My biggest growth this quarter was during the t-shirt designs because I learned about how to work for a client and how to use illustrator to create my logos/designs. My most significant area for growth is in illustrator. I could use illustrator to create my logos and designs, but I need work on creating actual illustrations. For example, in my movie posters, it was difficult for me to re-create the conjuring doll and so it looked a bit too cartoon-ish.
5. What is the most memorable moment/s you have had this semester and why?
The most memorable moments that I have had this semester was getting my t-shirt design chosen by the people at Overload. It was a great experience for me to actually create designs for a real business and be chosen. I was happy with the work I created and I spent a lot of time in class to work on my designs.
6. Please give me any kind, specific, helpful input you think we may be able to incorporate in our class in the future
I think that in the future of this class, we could change some of the projects that we did. For example, we did a lot of vector creations in illustrator. I recently worked on my own project at home on Cinema 4D. It was a low-poly 3D landscape. Of course, we do not have Cinema 4D on these computers, but you can still create low-poly designs and landscapes in illustrator. It could be a flat 2D image or it could be a flat image that appears to be 3D. I think this would be a fun project in exchange for a vector project.
